New Hampshire secures funds to address aging infrastructure

Through bipartisan collaboration, New Hampshire secured funding for updating water and sewer infrastructure. The funding was secured by Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) and U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, a senior member of the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee.

The state looks to allocate $1,092,000 to the City of Manchester for MS4 Drainage Improvements. This plans to address failing and undersized water infrastructure, reducing city resources spent on temporary fixes and improving water quality in the Merrimack River. The Town of Newmarket is expected to receive $1,092,000  to replace an aging sewer force main and upgrade essential wastewater pumping facilities. These upgrades will ensure the continuation of reliable wastewater conveyance and will mitigate potential negative environmental outcomes, such as untreated wastewater discharges into the Lamprey River.

“Through our community-driven process, I am proud to secure funding in this bipartisan legislation that will return federal dollars to New Hampshire to support our law enforcement and first responders and improve water quality in communities with aging infrastructure,”said Congressman Pappas in a press release. “As this process moves forward I’ll continue to work with New Hampshire community leaders as well as my colleagues across the aisle in Congress to address the needs of Granite Staters, and I look forward to helping pass this legislation through the House this week.”
