Higher mortgage interest rates continued to slow housing production in Oct. 2024, with overall housing starts falling 3.1% to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.31 million units. The NAHB reports that the average monthly mortgage rate increased from 6.18% to 6.43%, contributing to a 6.9% decline in single-family starts.
