Single-family built-for-rent (SFBFR) construction saw significant growth in the third quarter of 2024, with 24,000 new starts — an increase of 41% from the same period in 2023. According to the NAHB, this growth comes as builders focus on expanding rental housing inventory amid high mortgage rates, which continue to challenge affordability in the for-sale market. Homeownership remains out of reach for many, so the demand for single-family rental options is expected to persist.
