Consumer sentiment edges up to 93.2 in late September
Although consumer sentiment continued to post small increases throughout September to 93.2, the overall trends in the Sentiment Index show signs of a slow erosion. Trade policies have had the greatest negative impact on consumers, with a near record one-third of all consumers negatively mentioning trade policies.
Disposable income up another 0.5 percent in August, but consumer spending nearly flat
While disposable personal income rose by 0.5 percent in August (mostly due to wage gains), personal consumption expenditures rose by just 0.1 percent, leading to a rebound in the personal savings rate to 8.1 percent of income.
August PCE Price Index nearly flat from July, up 1.4 percent year-on-year
The August PCE price index inflation tracker increased less than 0.1 percent from July but rose 1.4 percent year-on-year. Excluding food and energy, the PCE price index increased 0.1 percent and 1.8 percent year-on-year.
