Hello Readers, in print and online, and a very happy New Year to you,
Volume 13 of GHB gets underway with this issue. We are pleased to begin construction of our all new ABC Green Home 4.0 LUXE Build in the mountain resort community of Crestline, in southern California. Our Net-Zero, LEED demonstration home build will be the first spec home we are completing that will be for sale at market rate, after its model home phase is complete. Our design and construction teams are excited to get started. You can follow our progress on the live cams at www.abcgreenhome.com.
With Net-Zero just one code cycle away in California and the greening of the nation’s building codes from coast to coast, the ABC Green Home project is designed to showcase best practices in high-performance American home design, technology, and construction for you, our reader. In 2011, we decided we could talk about green homebuilding, but concluded it would be very useful to actually design and build very efficient, Net-Zero homes. Our team has learned a lot along this journey, mostly about how hard it is to be good at homebuilding. What a challenging business this is. Hats off to all of you and your teams for pursuing such a noble endeavor. Nothing feels as good as building a home for a family. We get it. Our job is to build efficient, comfortable and livable homes that outperform other homes, yet do so unobtrusively and without overwhelming the homeowners. We have embraced technology and designed the ABC Green Homes to be accessible via a smartphone, so features like unlocking doors, operating appliances, lighting, entertainment, window blinds, sprinklers, garage doors, thermostats and security systems can be done remotely. We have a wonderful group of partners on this project that have brought their expertise, knowledge, and experience. We look forward to sharing our journey with you.
Have a great year!
